Lady Victoria Hervey's sheer dress to Golden Globes afterparty
1.8billion sexual activities occur in Nigeria yearly, and 80% of them are unprotected.
According to statistics, 8 out of 10 Nigerian men do not use condoms. This was revealed by Bright Ekweremadu, the Managing Director of Society for Family Health, SFH. He said over 1.8billion sexual activities occur in Nigeria yearly, and 80% of them are unprotected.
Mr Ekweremadu said if Nigerian men were to use condoms, no supplier in the world would be able to afford the quantity of condoms Nigerian men would need. He said their research showed that young Nigerians between 18 and 34 years in the cities of Lagos & Abuja make the highest use of condoms.
He said many sexually active Nigerian men have several excuses for not wanting to use condoms. Excuses like "I am healthy, I dont have infections, flesh to flesh is sweeter" etc...
He said there are so many cases of sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies reported yearly because of people's refusal to use condoms. He also said their research shows that the women don't insist on condoms.
Uganda may be a homohobic country, but their men rank high in Googling gay porn
The anti-homosexuality bill in Uganda is more than simply a bill about homosexuality, and it is more than a pernicious piece of local legislation that affects Uganda alone. Of course, the bill itself is bad enough. Originally conceived back in 2009, it was introduced with the aim of ridding Uganda of homosexuality and, to begin with, contained the death penalty. An international outcry forced the Ugandans to drop that section of the bill, but the form in which it passed through the legislature just before Christmas is dreadful enough, with homosexuality now leading to life imprisonment and a prison sentence for those who do not report gay people to the authorities within 24 hours.Homosexuality is here understood as not just anal sex between men (yes, it's worth pointing out to some people that straight couples can just as easily do that sort of thing too), but also as same-sex snogging and heavy petting. On Wednesday, a gathering of 50 or so people outside the Ugandan embassy in London called on the president not to sign the bill, but there is little sign that he will listen. Described by its supporters as a "Christmas present", Peter Tatchell has it rather differently: "The bill is in some respects even more draconian than the extreme homophobic laws of countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran." Uganda is set to become the anti-gay capital of the world.
Last year, Google published statistics about the places in the world where their search engine was most used to find gay porn sites. The results were extraordinary. According to its figures, Uganda is third on the list of counties where "man fucking man" is most searched for, behind Kenya and Pakistan, both of which are countries where homosexuality is illegal. These figures also demonstrate a high degree of correlation between places of conservative religious practice and internet searches for gay porn.
Is there a connection, then, between homophobia and suppressed homosexuality, along the lines of "me thinks he protesteth too much"? Is it that homosexual desires, when shut out because of some sense of shame, can easily express themselves as a form of homophobia? When the US conservative evangelical pastor Ted Haggard, well known for his anti-gay preaching, was discovered to have been paying a masseuse for gay sex, he explained that "I think I was partially so vehement because of my own war". Freud coined the description "reaction-formation", in which anxiety-generating feelings are masked by an exaggerated reaction in the opposite direction. There is some experimental evidence to back this up, with one study showing that 20% of those who self-described as "highly straight" indicated some level of same-sex attraction. This discrepancy is often put down to highly controlling parents who do not allow their children room to explore their sexual identity.
Yes, of course, there are many people who do not experience same-sex attraction who are anti-gay. But one of the features of reaction-formation is its paranoia and lack of proportion. And this is precisely what the scaremongering nonsense about gay people being out to get our children – a common line in the Ugandan debate – clearly demonstrates. In conservative religious environments where God is depicted as a powerful all-controlling parent, it makes sense to me that this reaction-formation will be particularly strong.
Which is why so much homophobia is rooted in religion or, as I would argue, in a form of bad religion that has a misplaced understanding of the divine. And I suspect also that this "bad God" is not unconnected with having been introduced as part of western colonialism with all the control and domination that this involved. For my part, if God is love, then the so-called "kill the gays" bill is not of his doing. And so the battle to overcome the instinct behind this cruel legislation has to include some element of theological deprogramming.

US Declares 16 States In Nigeria Unsafe
The United States government has warned its citizens against travelling to 16 states in Nigeria.
In a revised travel alert issued by the US State Department and dated January 8, 2014, the United States government advised its citizens to avoid all but essential travels to Adamawa, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Gombe and Jigawa States.
The other states on the list, which the US said are prone to kidnappings, robberies and other armed attacks are Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, Yobe, and Zamfara.
Abia, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Imo and Rivers States, which were in an earlier list issued in June 2013, are not on the latest travel alert list.
The US described the security situation in Nigeria as “fluid and unpredictable” while warning against travel to the Gulf of Guinea because of the threat of piracy.
It also advised all US citizens to be particularly vigilant around government security facilities, “places of worship and locations where large crowds may gather”.
The statement added that “Security measures in Nigeria remain heightened due to threats posed by extremist groups."
It further stated that, “Boko Haram, an extremist group based in northeast Nigeria designated as a Foreign Terrorist organisation by the Department of State, has claimed responsibility for many attacks, mainly in northern Nigeria.”
According to the State Department, the Ansaru group, an offshoot of Boko Haram, has carried out several kidnappings targeting foreigners in Nigeria. It noted that the group also claimed responsibility for other violent acts in the past year.

Division of families over Jonathan: 2015 deh burst some brain!
Like the sword of Damocles, perception about President Goodluck Jonathan is pushing some of the country’s major political families towards different political poles
By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor
Dr. Iyabo Obasanjo apparently does not care a hoot about what many Nigerians think of President Goodluck Jonathan; whether good or bad.
She was clear on that when she wrote a blistering severance letter to her father last December.
She was clear on that when she wrote a blistering severance letter to her father last December.
“This letter is not in support of President Jonathan or APC or any other group or person, but an outpouring from my soul to God,” the former senator wrote in a letter that was partly triggered by her father’s own open letter to Dr. Jonathan.
But how President Jonathan stirred the famous break up between father and daughter was given fillip with the denunciation by Iyabo of her father as a hypocrite who would not allow on himself what he was supposedly doing to President Jonathan.
“For you to accuse someone else of what you so obviously practiced yourself tells of your narcissistic megalomaniac personality,” Senator Obasanjo wrote in a letter that stirred wild celebration among several political associates of President Jonathan.
Given the acidic content of the letter earlier written by President Obasanjo to President Jonathan, many independent stakeholders were tempted to believe that Senator Obasanjo had become a pawn in the fight between the two presidents.
But Senator Iyabo Obasanjo whose difficult experience as a senator, especially when she was unduly tried for an offence that was later proved not to be a misdemanour, was quick to disavow political undertones to the issues between her and her father.
Iyabo and her father are not the only family members to be separated on the issue of Jonathan. Across the country Dr. Jonathan has also been the cause of rift among some other families in the public eye.
The Adamawa State Commissioner for Environment, Mrs. Arziki Sawa and her husband Senator Andrawus Sawa are no less equally divided by the Jonathan phenomenon.
The Adamawa State Commissioner for Environment, Mrs. Arziki Sawa and her husband Senator Andrawus Sawa are no less equally divided by the Jonathan phenomenon.
Senator Sawa, a former military officer reputed to be at one time a very close friend of Governor Murtala Nyako was allegedly instrumental to the nomination of his wife as commissioner in the cabinet of Nyako.
The governor and Senator Sawa served in the military at about the same time. Some claim that the appointment of his wife into the Adamawa cabinet followed the failure of the governor to give his one time friend a federal appointment.
The governor and Senator Sawa served in the military at about the same time. Some claim that the appointment of his wife into the Adamawa cabinet followed the failure of the governor to give his one time friend a federal appointment.
But the truth of how the two fell out remains a secret that only the two men will tell one day.
Even though Senator Sawa has firmly turned his back on Nyako and become a strong backer of Jonathan, his wife has continued to sojourn in the cabinet.
When on Monday, December 16, 2013 the Adamawa State chapter of the PDP held a massive rally to endorse President Jonathan’s leadership of the country, Senator Sawa was very visible.

When on Monday, December 16, 2013 the Adamawa State chapter of the PDP held a massive rally to endorse President Jonathan’s leadership of the country, Senator Sawa was very visible.
However, two days after that rally when the Adamawa State Executive Council met and unanimously resolved to defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC, the absence of Mrs. Arziki Sawa was as conspicuous as the presence of her husband was noticed in the PDP rally supportive of Dr. Jonathan.
It was as such not difficult for some to speculate that Mrs. Sawa had joined her husband to support Jonathan against the declaration by her colleagues in the State Executive Council to join the APC.
A troubled Mrs. Sawa was quick to dissociate herself from the rally and to pledge support for Governor Nyako as she gave reasons for her absence.

“I am 100 per cent behind Baba Maimangoro (Governor Nyako) and there is no way that I can abandon him, so I am 100 per cent behind him in APC and wherever he is going, I will go with him,” Mrs. Sawa told Vanguard in a telephone interview. “I don’t know who is behind the reports.”
Clarifying her absence at the eventful State Executive Council meeting where the resolution to defect to APC in solidarity with Nyako was taken, she said:
“The truth is that I went for an official engagement in Abuja and so maybe because they didn’t see me at the declaration but I cannot point at any person as being behind the reports. If there is anybody spreading the report, that person is telling a lie and he will never see me going the other way and just wants to bring chaos.”

Mrs. Sawa was away at a meeting of the National Council on Environment in Abuja when the decision by the cabinet to defect to the APC was taken.
The Minister of State, for Federal Capital Territory, Ms Jumoke Akinjide on her part has united with her father, Chief Richard Akinjide in following the PDP mainstream supportive of Dr. Jonathan against the position taken by her husband, Rep. Ahman Pategi, a member of the House of Representatives.

Pategi from Kwara State, was among the 37 members of the House of Representatives who defected from the PDP to join the APC last month.
The minister who lives with her husband and is reported to have a very solid relationship with him in their Abuja home was quoted to have told the online medium, Premium Times, that she would never leave the PDP for the APC. Apparently, the minister’s affection for the PDP will not disrupt the well known affection she is believed to have towards her husband.
“I’ll never ever leave the PDP. The Akinjide family is loyal to the PDP and loyal to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. My father, Richard Akinjide is a founding member of the PDP and a member of the PDP Board of Trustees.”
“I am the arrowhead of the PDP in Oyo State as the minister in an opposition state. I will continue to work hard to ensure the success of Mr. President, the Transformation Agenda, and the success of the PDP at the polls in the 2015 elections.”
Arguably one of the most intriguing divisions wrought by the Jonathan phenomenon is the acrimony or lack of it within the Bamanga Tukur and Murtala Nyako families in Adamawa State. Tukur, the national chairman of the PDP is in the frontline in the campaign to get the president a second term in office.
Though the preponderance of opinion of stakeholders is that Tukur is the problem with the party, the president it appears is unwilling to let him go upon the fact that the president is unavailable to find someone more loyal to his cause than Tukur in the north.
Nyako on the other hand was one of the governors that split from the PDP and subsequently defected to the APC with their principal focus being to frustrate a second term for the president.
The split on Jonathan between Chairman Tukur and Governor Nyako along the way also led to their sharp differences on the structure of the PDP in Adamawa State. Tukur eventually prevailed in the split despite the near unanimous revolt the National Working Committee, NWC gave to Nyako a year ago on the issue.
Tukur prevailed simply because of the backing he got from the president.
Tukur prevailed simply because of the backing he got from the president.
Despite the sharp acrimony between the national chairman and his governor, it is surprising that Tukur’s son, Abati Mahmud Bamanga Tukur remains happily married to Nyako’s daughter, Hadiza Murtala Nyako.
Even more, is the fact that both Tukur and Nyako have a history of intermarriage between them that was crowned with the marriage of Tukur’s son to Nyako’s daughter.

The couple according to familiar sources is said to be living in peace impervious to the cat and dog battle between their fathers.
“When the daughter wants to visit her father, she goes along with her husband and when the son wants to visit his father, he goes along with his wife and they are both living happily in Lagos,” a source familiar with the family said.
For another female minister in the Jonathan cabinet, her appointment into the Jonathan cabinet became a reality after the exit of her husband from a high flying position in the Jonathan cabinet.
For another female minister in the Jonathan cabinet, her appointment into the Jonathan cabinet became a reality after the exit of her husband from a high flying position in the Jonathan cabinet.
Today, husband and wife are said not to be on talking terms following the female minister’s full devotion to Jonathan and his administration, a development that is said to have made the husband to be sulking for the last few years he has been out of his position.
For yet another female minister in the Jonathan cabinet, Hajia Zainab Mana President Jonathan would not be faulted for the division that once characterized the family.
Hajia Mana and her husband at the time of the 2007 general election were sharply split in 2007 when her husband, Alhaji Umar Joji Maina left with elements formerly loyal to Atiku Abubakar to contest the gubernatorial elections of that year on the platform of the Labour Party.

The political split between husband and wife according to sources was a serious stress that may nevertheless have been resolved with time.

High Court Bombed In Rivers State
A High Court in Ahoada East LGA of Rivers State was bombed Monday January 6th, according to reports from the state.
The Will Nigeria reports
The bombing of the court where Justice Charles N. Wali usually holds court, reportedly occurred on Monday morning a few hours before a politically charged suit against Hon Evans Bipi, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly and leader of a group of 6 lawmakers, who has been unlawfully parading himself as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Justice Wali had about a month ago ordered Bipi to stop parading himself as Speaker of the House as the tussle over control of the state government between loyalists of the Presidency and the Rivers Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, lingers with an end in sight. No casualties have been reported over the bombing as at the time of filing this report.

Sammie Okposo Renounces COSON Membership
Renowned gospel act and Glo Ambassador, Sammie Okposo has renounced his membership of Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), due to what he says is the lack of transparency and accountability on the part of the CMO. This is coming barely two weeks after he carpeted NBC for its failure to reach an agreement with COSON while also calling for transparency at the CMO.
In the statement made available to the media, the multiple award winning artiste who has been an avid member of the CMO since inception declared that COSON should desist from collecting royalties and acting on his behalf with immediate effect. “I, Sammie Okposo, a proud Nigerian artiste wishes to notify the general public and all stakeholders alike that I have stopped being a member of COSON.”
Reiterating his earlier statements, Okposo insisted that for COSON to be taken seriously, the need for transparency and accountability could not be overemphasized. “The registration of COSON is commendable and may have set the Industry on the path to growth and consolidation but accountability and transparency is very important. My facts reveal that there is nothing in COSON’s constitution that limits the number of terms the Chairman of the Board could serve and this is extremely dangerous. I read Onyeka Onwenu’s interview and she cited it as one of the reasons she left the board of COSON. All effort must be made to ensure COSON does not end up the property of one man. COSON is now delving into awards and competitive activities that are not related to its core responsibilities and this is a distraction".
Advancing reason why he chose to part ways with the CMO, the singer said “The leadership of COSON must also desist from pursuing selfish interests of some of its members and our artistes must get their due respect and recognition. The organization needs to imbibe the art of transparency in the disbursement of funds. How do you disburse royalty payments without showing the artistes the logs? It’s unacceptable. This issue must also be looked into with a view to ensuring that monies collected actually go to deserving artistes”.
Okposo finally called on government to beam its search lights on the activities of peculiar organizations like COSON through the enactment and implementation of laws and oversight function. He also called for the registration of another CMO with a view to breaking the monopoly currently being enjoyed by COSON.

Dr. Ezekiel Izuogu : How the Izuogu Z-600 dream was destroyed.
In 1997, a brilliant Igbo Electrical Engineer and Lecturer at the Federal polytechnic Nekede, Dr. Ezekiel Izogu designed and developed the Izuogu Z-600, the first African indigenous manufactured car.
The car was described by the BBC as ‘ the African dream machine’ as 90% of its parts were sourced locally . At a projected sales cost of 2000 dollars, it would have taken the world by storm and become the cheapest and most affordable car on earth. With mass production planned under Izogu Motors plant in Naze owerri, the prospects of an industrial revolution in Igbo land and Nigeria, was in the making.
The car was equipped with a self made 1.8L four cylinder engine that got 18mpg and allowedthe car to achieve a top speed of 140 km/h. Front Wheel Drive (FWD) was chosen over Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) because a transmission tunnel, which RWD would require, would be more expensive to fabricate.
So 90% of the car’s components were made locally. General Sani Abacha set up a 12 man panel of inquiry made up of professionals to ascertain the road worthiness and authenticity of the car and after several days of probing, the committee gave Dr. Izuogu’s car a clean bill of health recommending that some of the bumps on the body of the car be smoothened. It is worthy to note that this was five years before India built their first car known as the Indi.
At a well organized unveiling ceremony which had General Abacha represented by Oladipo Diya, over 20 foreign ambassadors and thousands of people in attendance, the federal government promised a grant of 235 million naira to Dr.Izuogu.
An excited Dr Izuogu is still waiting for that grant till today. No dime was released to him. In 2006, the government of South Africa invited Dr. Izuogu to do a presentation about the car in the presence of several world class engineers . Being impressed with his presentation, they invited him to come and set up a plant in South Africa and begin the production of the car.
Dr Izuogu reluctantly agreed, though he wasn’t happy that the benefits of employment generation will be lost on the locals of Naze and the Nigerian human resources environment . On Saturday the 11th of March 2006, at about 2.00 a.m, a total of about 12 heavily armed men broke into Dr. Izogu’s factory in Naze and carted away various machines and tools including the design history notebook of Z-600, the design file Z-MASS, containing the design history for mass production of Z-600 car, and the moulds for various parts of the car.
According to Dr. Izogu:
“It seems that the target of this robbery is to stop the efforts we are making to mass-produce the first ever locally made car in Africa. Other items stolen included locally produced timing wheel, locally produced camshaft, locally produced crankshaft, locally produced engine tappets, all 20 pieces each.
Also stolen were ten pieces of locally produced Z-600 engine blocks, ten pieces of locally produced pistons, four pieces of engine block mounds, four pieces of top engine block moulds, ten pieces of engine fly wheel and two pieces each of rear car and front mudguard moulds.”The inventor regretted that not only did they lose over one N1 billion in monetary terms, but also time (about 10 years) and the energy it took to design and produce the moulds. “To worsen the matter, our design notebook was also stolen,” he stated.
He regarded the incident as a national economic disaster because the nation had lost a technological and intellectual property. This Press was quiet about this story. The set back and governments attitude frustrated Izuogu and his dream died.
