ROADS TO ONITSHA SHOPPING MALL TO BE DUALISED



The State Government will expand parts of Awka road to further widen the access road to the Onitsha International Shopping Mall. Governor Obi who was speaking while inspecting the area said that was in addition to the ongoing dualization of the Park Road, GRA.

The shopping mall is being executed under Public Private Partnership. The Governor said the expansion would be extended to the Ontisha General Hospital axis while an Amusement Park will also be built in the area. He explained that that will enhance free flow of traffic in the area and complement the on-going upgrading of infrastructure in Onitsha and environs.

The Governor expressed satisfaction with the level of work at the kick off of the project and assured that all necessary infrastructures will be put in place to ensure smooth take off of the facility.

A representative of the collaborating firm, Mr. Osita Okonkwo, said the contractor had fully mobilized to site and ha procured all needed materials for the project, assuring that the shopping mall would be completed on schedule and according to specifications. Mr Okonkwo thanked the Governor for awarding the contract for the access road and for commitment to realizing the project.

Also speaking, a representative of the Shoprites Group, Mr Gerald Frits, said that when functional, the mall would reduce the cost of goods as they would be working with local farmers in the State. Mr. Frits said the facility would also provide a lot of employment opportunities, and commended the vision of Governor Obi in attracting high class investments to the State
